If you think that consignment stores are drab and unimaginative, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by Sugar Plum Consignments.

Sugar Plum Consignments, 6100 Primacy Parkway, Suite 108, opened a few weeks ago. It's adjacent to the Happy Mexican restaurant off Park and Ridgeway in East Memphis.

I stopped by the store last week during their weekly Ladies Night: merchandise is 20 percent off and wine and hors d'oeuvres are served.

The store is very chic, looking more like a swanky boutique.

"We want people to be excited about consignment," said owner Melissa Dixon. "Consignment shouldn't be something you have to hide."

The store carries everything from t-shirts and pajamas to cocktail dresses. Sizes range from 0 to 28. Items are either brand new, "rescued", or vintage. And you can pick up a 0.99 pair of earrings or a piece from St. John or Balenciaga. (I noticed quite a few items under $25, if you're on a budget.)

There are glamorous black chandeliers, comfy couches with magazines and girly dressing rooms. Magazine pages demonstrating trends and styles are placed near real-life interpretations of an outfit or accessories.
