Top 5 Looks from the 2010 American Music Awards

Taylor Swift in Collette Dinnigan

(She does the sexy/playful look well.)

Miley Cyrus in Marchesa

(I'm impressed!)

Rihanna in Elie Saab

(Amazing dress. I'm convinced she can pull off color combos that would look terrible on anyone else.)

Stana Katic in Oday Shakar

Fergie in Zuhair Murad

(ALL of her pictures here have these unfortunate poses.)

New Face for an Old Broad

This past weekend Livable Memphis and the Broad Avenue Business District put on a festival (or block party) showing the progress and the potential of Broad Avenue and its arts district.

The event showcased restaurants (in the area and temporarily in the area), clothing (and other) vendors and local musicians.

It was a nice day, too!

Let me show you some of the cool "pop-up shops."

First, there was Blues City Thrift.

The thrift store and nonprofit was created by Amy Hoyt. Hoyt was in charge of the now-defunct MIFA Thrift Store.

Blues City Thrift is set to open in the spring (location as of yet undetermined).

I was in the market for ballet flats and scored these babies for $4 each:

Then, I got to meet the very cool Dinah Makowsky of Dinah Makowsky Millinery.

(She's located at 5555 Shady Grove Road, by the way.)

Makowsky has been making hats for four years now. Each hat takes three days to make and some have made it to the heads of Kentucky Derby attendees.

She'll be at Loudean's, 2174 Young Ave., on Dec. 2 for a meet-and-greet.

(I'll list this event in a separate post.)

I also met Edward who was manning the Live From Memphis table.

Close-up of the second shirt:

Next up was T. Stewart who draws designs, then silk-screens them on shirts and skate boards.

Close-up:

In the same building was Shalishah 'Petey' Franklin (not pictured) and Strange Fruit Vintage.

(I like that she includes men's vintage.)

Two shops that I unfortunately didn't get to explore at length were Kate and Elise and Necklaces by Ann Foshee.

(The building was never not this busy.)

They had vintage clothing and household items.

(You can find them upstairs at Todd Hall Antiques, 2129 Cooper.)

I had a great time and I look forward to similar events in the future.
